Impact-resistant polyvinyl chloride is produced by polymerizing vinyl chloride in aqueous suspension in the presence of a polybutadiene, e.g. a gel-free 1,4-polybutadiene containing more than 80% of the cis-form, which is preferably dissolved in the vinyl chloride. Also present may be other polymerizable monomers such as methyl or ethyl acrylate or diethyl maleate. The polymerization may be carried out with the aid of catalysts, e.g. benzoyl or lauroyl peroxide, and suspension stabilizers, e.g. calcium phosphate, sodium polyacrylate, gelatin, polyvinyl alcohol and methyl cellulose. |
