An applicator for spreading filling compound on a joint between wall boards comprises a box frame 1 having a spreading edge 3 on one side and a collapsible container 6 to be held in the hand on the other. The flexible bag 6 is bonded or clamped round the edge of the frame 1 and is squeezed when the applicator is against the wall boards to force compound past the edge 3 which is relieved, chamfered or rounded. The side 2 of the frame is inclined. Two opposite sides of the frame may have spreading edges 3 and may be of salient, Fig. 2, or re-entrant shape. The edges 5 have wear strips 5a. An adhesive tape may be put on the joint first. According to the Provisional Specification an applicator comprises a box open on two adjacent faces, the longitudinal edges of the side walls of the open faces being inclined for engaging the wall boards and a transverse edge at the end of the inclined edges being chamfered for a spreading edge. The spreading edge may be concave or of salient or re-entrant V-shape. The spreading edge may be on the edge of a side wall of the open faces. |
