It comprises performing a discharge step by which refuse (RF) is discharged from a refuse chute (RC i ) into a transport pipe (100); drawing air along the transport pipe (100) for transporting the refuse (RF) to collection station (300); controlling the transport speed of the air flow (V A ); controlling the discharge speed of the air (V B ) in the refuse chute (RC i ); varying the transport speed of the air flow (V A ), through a PID controller during transportation of refuse (RF) such that the transport speed of the refuse (T S ) is constant along the pipe (100); and varying the discharge speed of the air (V B ) for a discharge time (t D ) during discharge. A variation in the discharge speed of the air (”V B ) is dependent at least upon the distance (d) of each refuse chute (RC i ) to the central station (300).
