PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hardness testing machine and a hardness testing method that can easily test the hardness of even etched specimens.SOLUTION: A hardness testing machine is equipped with indenting means (CPU 61) that causes a dent to be formed in the surface of a specimen by pressing an indenter against the surface of the specimen; data acquiring means (CPU 61) that controls imaging means (imaging unit 15) to cause the specimen having the dent to be photographed to acquire three-dimensional shape data of the specimen; and hardness calculating means (CPU 61) to calculate the hardness of the specimen on the basis of the three-dimensional shape data of the specimen acquired by the data acquiring means.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
