摘要 The invention refers to a system and method for controlling traffic jam, which uses the minimum amount of energy for controlling the traffic. Besides being a relatively easy system, the invention has at least two laser emitters arranged at both sides of the street or avenue, which emit light directed to a light sensor located on the opposite side thereof, when vehicles are travelling the signal of the laser emitter is interrupted, the signal being sent to the processor, which receives the data referring to the amount of vehicles traveling in a predetermined period of time, the processor analyzing the information and sending the ON or OFF decision signal, depending on the crossing conditions, to the optocouplers for controlling the traffic lights of the crossing, for instance, turning the green light On on one direction and the red light on the other direction of the traffic lights. Another purpose of the invention consists in providing a method for controlling the traffic, which inclu des the following steps: starting when no vehicle is in motion; then when vehicles are perpendicularly travelling in one or both directions, the process determining which traffic lights are turned green, red or remain OFF; once the sensor stops detecting vehicles, it may send the signal to the processor and the traffic lights are turned OFF. The system allows the vehicles crossing by to be registered, determining which one was firstly registered and controlling the order in which they circulate, optimizing and improving the current traffic light systems available in big cities, saving electric power as the traffic lights are operated only in the required moment.
