A transfer support for a colour design comprises a flexible paper sheet, to which a colour design is to be applied, held rigidly but releasably by an adhesive on a self-supporting and inflexible base formed of a material which is unaffected or substantially unaffected by changes in atmospheric conditions. The base member may be of wood, metal, plywood, or plastic material, and is preferably formed of aluminium or an aluminium-base alloy sheet. The adhesive may be a starch based gum or a pressure sensitive adhesive and may be applied over the whole surface or in parallel sinuous lines. The paper sheet may comprise a single sheet of transfer paper and when printed, for example in several colours, is removable from the base to transfer the design to glass or earthenware &c. on immersion in water.
