a non-magnetic substrate; an orientation control layer formed on the non-magnetic substrate, the orientation control layer made of a nickel alloy or silver alloy having a face-centered cubic lattice structure; a non-magnetic seed layer formed in contact with the orientation control layer, the non-magnetic seed layer made of silver, germanium, and at least one metal X selected from the group consisting of aluminum, magnesium, gold, and titanium; a non-magnetic intermediate layer formed on the non-magnetic seed layer, the non-magnetic intermediate layer made of ruthenium or ruthenium alloy; and a magnetic recording layer formed on the non-magnetic intermediate layer. |
