Rubies or barium titanate crystals 9 are grown from the solute of flux 8 which is continuously supplied from source material 5. By maintaining the upper temperature zone 3 at a temperature equivalent to that of the saturation temperature and the lower temperature zone 4 at a higher temperature this is achieved.
