The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a method for producing a hot-dip galvanized steel material in which wettability with respect to molten zinc is good and plating defects are not generated; and a hot-dip galvanized steel material. In the method for producing a hot-dip galvanized steel material, a flux treatment is performed in which 2.8 g/m2 or more of a hot-dip galvanizing flux comprising zinc chloride and ammonium chloride is attached to the surface of a steel material to be plated, a drying treatment is subsequently performed, and a hot-dip galvanizing bath immersion treatment is then performed such that the expression (1), namely, τ ≤ 1.75×f is satisfied. In the expression (1), f is the amount (g/m2) of hot-dip galvanizing flux comprising zinc chloride and ammonium chloride that is attached to the surface of the steel material and τ is the amount of time (seconds) from when the steel material to be plated is brought into contact with the hot-dip galvanizing bath until total immersion of said steel material in the hot-dip galvanizing bath. |
