The present invention relates to a method for taking in, storing and discharging thermal energy from gases, in which, in a first step, a gas is made to flow through a bed of a loose material in a first flow direction for a time period ti, in the process transferring to the loose material heat or cold which is stored by the loose material and, in a second step, a gas is made to flow through the bed of loose material in a second flow direction for a time period t2, in the process of absorbing heat or cold from the loose material, characterized in that the ratio of bed depth b in the flow direction of the gas to the average particle diameter dP of the loose material is at least 10, and an apparatus for carrying out this method. |
