PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately determine a factor of a decrease in the quantity of a laser beam.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a laser diode 304 with a front-side light emission point 304a from which rear light is emitted as a result of supply of drive current; a photosensitive drum 201 to which rear light is emitted; a detection part that detects a value relating to the surface potential of the photosensitive drum 201; and a determination part that determines an abnormal state of the laser diode 304. The surface potential of a portion of the photosensitive drum 201, to which rear light has been emitted, is detected more than one time by means of the detection part. On the basis of an amount of change in value relating to the surface potential detected by the detection part, the determination part determines that the laser diode 304 is in an abnormal state.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9 |
