PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traveling speed reducer protection structure and a crawler type work machine which can prevent abrasion of a speed reducer cover for protecting a traveling speed reducer and bolts for fixing the speed reducer due to contact with a rock or the like.SOLUTION: A casing 20 comprises: a cylindrical casing body 21 surrounding the periphery of a traveling speed reducer; a speed reducer cover 23 for covering an opening of the casing body 21; and a plurality of speed reducer cover fixing bolts 24, which are screwed into a plurality of bolt holes 23B formed along the periphery of the speed reducer cover 23, for fixing the speed reducer cover 23 to the casing body 21. A protective cover 25 for protecting the plurality of speed reducer cover fixing bolts 24 is attached to the speed reducer cover 23. The protective cover 25 is fixed to the speed reducer cover 23 by protective cover fixing bolts 26. The head parts of the protective cover fixing bolts 26 fit inside a circle circumscribing the head parts of the plurality of speed reducer cover fixing bolts 24 viewed from a driving wheel axial direction A.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
