Ceiling panels 4, Fig. 2 are supported by bearers 10 carried by joists 1, the bearers 10 being fastened to the joists by fastening means 6 which are so constructed that they may be brought into a first position relative to the joists, in which position the bearers 10 are supported at a distance from the joists and into a final position, Fig. 3, in which the edges of the panels 4 are firmly clamped between the bearers 10 and the joists 1. The fastening means in one embodiment are formed from resilient metal strip shaped to slidably engage within the bearers 10 and have lips 12 which locate the fastening means in the first position upon insertion of the lips through apertures 5 in the joists 1. Curved portions 11 in the legs of the fastening means serve to locate them in the final position shown in Fig. 3. An alternative form of fastening means formed from resilient strip is described with reference to Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). In a further embodiment the fastening means comprises the female portion 20, Fig. 7 of a press stud fastener secured to the joist and adjusted to be engaged by a male portion 21 of a press stud fastener formed by the bearer. The female portion 20 is formed with a socket defining two positions, one of which is occupied by a head 22 of the male member to define the first position and the other of which, at 23, is occupied by the head 22 to define the final position. The panels 4 may be perforated and provided with a strip of porous paper Fig. 1 (not shown) upon which a sound absorbing filling may be arranged. |
