PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for operating one or a plurality of engine valves including a lost-motion assembly having a lock element for performing similarly a selective locking or unlocking operation against a lock mechanism arranged in a valve train in such a way that a selective applying motion or no applying motion to one or a plurality of engine valves can be prevented.SOLUTION: In one preferred embodiment, a lock element comprises a wedge having at least one wedge inclination surface defined along a circular truncated cone and constituted to be engaged with an outer depression part formed in a housing. The outer depression part also includes an inclination surface of the outer depression part defined along the circular truncated cone. A device in this invention can include a lock mechanism arranged in a housing hole of the housing and a snubber also arranged in the housing. Further, the outer depression part can be constituted in such a way that it allows the lock element to move along the longitudinal axis of the housing hole.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
