PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating, characterizing and/or identifying microorganisms in a test sample.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a method comprising an optional lysis step of lysing non-microorganism cells which may be present in a test sample, and a subsequent separation step of laminating over a density cushion and centrifuging it. It may be useful for the separation, characterization, and/or identification of microorganisms derived from a complicated sample such as a blood-containing culture medium. The invention also relates to a method for the characterization and/or identification of microorganisms in a sample using a spectrometry value of the microorganisms obtained by the spectrum analysis of a separated microorganisms sample with excitation emission matrix (EFM).SELECTED DRAWING: None
