The variable power optical system of the present application has, in order from a body side, a first lens group (G1) having a positive refractive power, a second lens group (G2) having a negative refractive power, and a third lens group (G3) having a positive refractive power, wherein: the first lens group has a front group (G11) having a negative refractive power and a rear group (G12) having a positive refractive power; focusing is carried out by moving the front group (G11); and at least a portion of the first lens group (G1), second lens group (G2), or third lens group (G3) moves, as a vibration reduction lens group, in a direction including a direction component that is orthogonal to the optical axis. |
