Provided is a protection element which is reduced in size and increased in rated value, and which is capable of maintaining fuse characteristics even in cases where a heating element lead-out electrode is omitted. This protection element comprises: an insulating substrate (10) that is provided with first and second electrodes (11, 12); a first fusible conductor (13) that is supported by the first and second electrodes (11, 12) and causes a short-circuit between the first and second electrodes (11, 12); and a heating element (14) that is provided in a region (15) between the first electrode (11) and the second electrode (12) and fuses the first fusible conductor (13) by generating heat by means of the application of a current. The first fusible conductor (13) is superimposed on the heating element (14) in the region (15) between the first electrode (11) and the second electrode (12). The wettability of the fusible conductor is improved by covering at least a surface of a low-melting-point metal (13a) with a high-melting-point metal (13b), which has a higher melting point than the low-melting-point metal (13a). |
