controlling the flow rate of respiratory gases supplied to the patient according to a predetermined gases pressure/flow rate profile in a mode defined for at least a portion of a breathing cycle of the patient, wherein the predetermined gases pressure/flow rate profile is configured to alter the flow rate at the end of expiration and/or the beginning of inspiration to increase the clearance of anatomical dead space in the patient. |
