The invention relates to a hand-held machine tool (1) for setting a nail (2), having a safety mechanism (10) which can be actuated by a user and a button (11) which can be actuated to trigger a setting of the nail (2). A mixture of flammable gas and air can be ignited in a combustion chamber (4). A piston (6) is movably arranged in the combustion chamber (4) in order to be accelerated in the setting direction (3) by the combustion gases. There is a stamp (7) on the piston (6) for driving the nail (2). A compressor (17) for compressing the air in the combustion chamber (4) is directly connected to the combustion chamber (4) via a channel (20). A valve (22, 23) which connects the channel (20) or the combustion chamber (4) to the environment is opened between the actuating of the safety mechanism (10) and the actuating of the button (11).
