A propulsion apparatus for a ship and a ship having the same are disclosed. The propulsion apparatus for the ship according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a rear propeller fixated to a propeller shaft; a front propeller supported at the propeller shaft in front of the rear propeller to be able to rotate; a reverse rotation device put into an installation space of a hull tail from the outside of a hull and installed in the installation space in a state of housing a reverse gear unit which reverses the rotation of the propeller shaft and transmits reverse rotation force to the front propeller, therein; a propeller connection member connecting the reverse rotation device to the front propeller to transmit rotational force to the front propeller; a casing coupled to the hull tail to cover the propeller connection member and extended toward the hull tail to form the outer surface of the hull; and a thrust support device coupled to the rear surface of the casing in a state of being fixated on the outer surface of the propeller connection member between the front propeller and the casing, and a housing embedding a thrust bearing supporting the thrust of the front propeller, wherein a maintenance cover, installed to be openable/closeable for maintaining the thrust bearing, is arranged in the housing.
