A vibration suppressor for an inflatable dam is provided by either a deflector 10 or a spoiler. The inflatable dam is formed from a flexible membrane (4 figure 8) anchored into a sluice in a waterway. A base 9 may be permanently secured to the membrane by cement applied between a flat surface 12 and the membrane. The base may have a dovetail groove 14 which can receive a dovetail 21 formed on the deflector 10 so that the foil forming the deflector is deployed with a surface sufficiently perpendicular to the flow of water overtopping the inflated bladder. The base 9 and the dovetail 21are shaped and dimensioned to be resiliently deformable so that the deflector 10 is retained against the load imposed by a normal head of falling water. However, the base 9 and dovetail 21 can flex resiliently so that a gap 17a opens sufficiently to release the deflector 10 when a threshold load is exceeded. The threshold load may be exceeded when debris entrained in the water falls on the deflector or at very high water flow rates. This alleviates the risk of damage to the dam and facilitates repair of the deflector. |
