973,551. Type-bar making machines. LINO. TYPE G.m.b.H. May 3, 1963 [May 5, 1962], No. 17687/63. Heading B6W. Trimming type-bars.-A slug trimming arrangement for line casting machines, comprises a pair of trimming knives 1 and 2; fluid pressure actuating means for yieldingly urging knife 2 toward knife 1; and abutment means for positive blocking of the movement of knife 2 toward knife 1 in a cutting position in which the knives are spaced from each other corresponding to the predetermined point size of the slug. A mold disc 4 has mold means including a pair of liners 7 with abutments 8 formed thereon corresponding in size to the required point size of the slug. The knife 2 is mounted on a slide 16 biased away from knife 1 by a spring 32. A fluid pressure pipe line 23 cooperates with a cylinder 20 within the slide 16, and a piston 26 abuts a fixed frame member 29 to urge the slide 16 with knife 2 toward knife 1. A pair of rods 11, adjustably screwed to the slide 16, abut abutments 8 to positively space the knives the predetermined amount. When a valve (not illustrated) terminates the fluid pressure to the cylinder 20, knife 2 is withdrawn from knife 1 under the action of the spring 32 as the mold disc 4 moves away from the knives. A lever 39, pivoted at 38 to the slide 16 and spring biased in a clockwise direction, engages a stop member 37 fixed to the frame. Knife 2 is not moved to the operative position until the mould disc 4 approaches the knives to eject another slug. In doing so, the disc 4 engages an adjustable screw 36 on the lever 39, thereby releasing the lever 39 from the stop member 37. |
