The dyeability of fibres and shaped articles of polypropylene is improved by blending polypropylene with more than 0.01%, e.g. 0.2-20, of a bis-amide and/or a bis-methane, R1X1R2 X2R3 where R1 and R3 are alkyl, R2 is alkylene and X1 and X2 are -NHCO-, -CONH-, -NHCOO- or -COONH- groups and producing fibres and shaped articles which are then treated with an inorganic and/or organic acid. The blend may also contain an aliphatic primary amine. The acids may be hydrochloric, nitric, sulphuric, phosphonic, hydroiodic, hydrobromic, hydrofluoric, oxalic or paratoluene sulphonic. After acid treatment the fibres may be treated with an alkaline solution, e.g. a water soluble aliphatic amine. In examples a blend containing crystalline polypropylene was drawn after melt-spinning and the treated fibre was dyed.ALSO:The dyeability of fibres and shaped articles of polypropylene is improved by blending polypropylene with more than 0.01%, e.g. 0.2-20%, of a bis-amide and/or a bis-methane, R1 X1 R2 X2 R3 where R1 and R3 are alkyl, R2 is alkylene and X1 and X2 are -NHCO-, -CONH-, -NHCOO- or -COONH- groups and producing fibres and shaped articles which are then treated with an inorganic and/or organic acid.
