1,021,453. Cold separation of gas mixtures. PETROCARBON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Nov. 18, 1963 [Nov. 29, 1962], No. 45233/62. Heading F4P. Impure compressed carbon dioxides is freed of low boiling-point impurities including C 1 -C 4 hydrocarbons by passing the feed stream through oil filters 10, a water separator 13, driers 15, coolers 17, 19, 21 and expanding at a valve 24 into a first rectification column 25, withdrawing crude liquid carbon dioxide therefrom through a line 29, expanding at a value 30, evaporating in a reflux condenser 27 traversed by overhead gaseous effluent of the column 25, heating the carbon dioxide vapour at 32, adding air from a compressor 37, heating the mixture to about 400‹ C. in an exchanger 39 and an electric heater 41 and subjecting the mixture to catalytic oxidation at 43 thereby converting the hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water vapour, and after cooling and drying passing the mixture through lines 49, 50 to a second rectification column 22 from which product liquid carbon dioxide is withdrawn at 56 at - 15‹ C., further cooled in an exchanger 57 to - 30‹ C. and led off as product through a line 58 to a storage container 59. Heat exchanger 21 serves as the reboiler for column 22 whereas exchanger 57 serves as the reboiler for column 25 assisted by an exchanger 52 through which passes overhead gas from column 22.
|
