Apparatus for delivering measured quantities of hot brewing liquid comprises first and second chambers 12, 13, means 35 for sensing the level of the liquid in the chamber 12, a heating element 25 in the chamber 13, and means responsive to the level sensing means for effecting delivery and a terminating delivery of liquid from the chamber 13 when the liquid in the chamber 12 reaches predetermined low and high levels respectively. The level sensing means is in the form of a float 35 co-operating, via adjustable stops 38, 39, with a switch 41 connected with a control device 34. In operation, upon actuation of a push-button 42, an electrically-operated pump 28, 31 is started so as to pump hot liquid from the chamber 13 through an outlet 30. The dispersed hot liquid is replaced by cold liquid from the chamber 12, via a pipe 21 leading into the chamber 13, until the level of the liquid in the chamber 12 falls to a point whereby the stop 39 abuts a lever 40 on the switch 41 to thereby stop the pump and, simultaneously, open a solenoid-actuated valve 19, 20. Liquid then flows into the chamber 12 until the level rises to cause the stop 38 to actuate the switch 41 and shut the valve 19. In modifications, the pump 28 may be located in the chamber 12 above an opening 22 communicating with the pipe 21 or, the pump may be dispensed with and replaced by a solenoidactuated outlet valve.</p> |
