a processor configured to receive a heading-based leg and to generate display signals based on the heading-based leg; and a display device comprising a horizontal situation indicator coupled to the processor, the horizontal situation indicator receiving the display signals from the processor and displaying symbology representing the heading-based leg, wherein the processor is configured to selectively operate in a heading-based mode in which a flight plan is defined according to heading and a track-based mode in which the flight plan is defined according to track, and wherein the symbology indicates operation in the heading-based mode or the track-based mode.
