974,436. Rotary piston units. F. PERKINS Ltd. April 23, 1963 [April 26, 1962], No. 15888/62. Heading F1F. A rotary-piston expansion engine, fluid motor or compressor of trochoidal type wherein a piston 11, Fig. 2, of arched-triangular shape planetary rotates in a casing 10 having a bilobar epitrochoidal inner periphery, (or alternatively the piston is stationary and the casing rotates), includes idler pinions 23, 24 mounted on a planet carrier 22 meshing with each other and respectively with an internally-toothed ring-gear 21 carried by the piston and a stationary gear-wheel 20 carried by the casing, which permits a larger diameter and hence stronger power-transmitting shaft 13 to be used whilst still maintaining the same speed ratio between the piston and shaft. The planet carrier 22 is fixed to the eccentric 14 at the position of maximum eccentricity with the pinions disposed on either side of the axis of symmetry of the eccentric.
