WATER PUMP WITH ELECTRIC POWER GENERATING UNIT AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING AIR CONDITIONING APPARATUS OF VEHICLE USING THE SAME

Disclosed are a water pump including a power generation unit for additionally generating electrical energy on the top of an alternator when an engine is running to supply sufficient power to various electric devices of a vehicle requiring power such as an air conditioner when the engine is stopped and a method for controlling the air conditioner of the vehicle using the water pump. The disclosed water pump includes: a housing; a pulley which rotates in link with the rotation of a crankshaft of the engine; a shaft which is installed to be rotatable inside the housing and rotates by the rotational power of the pulley; an impeller which pressurizes the coolant flowing into the housing by centrifugal force, is fixed to the shaft inside the housing, and rotates by the rotation of the shaft; and a power generation unit which generates power as the shaft rotates inside the housing. The power generation unit includes: a rotor which is supported by the shaft and rotates when the shaft rotates; and a stator which surrounds the rotor inside the housing. One among the rotor and the stator forms a magnetic field and the other includes a coil through which current generated through electromagnetic induction by the magnetic field flows.
