A compound spring for a control stick is disclosed. The compound spring comprises a first tubular portion having a first wall extending between a first end and a second end. The compound spring further comprises at least one first slot extending through said first wall and defined between opposing slot walls. When the first and second ends are rotated relative to one another, the spring will have one force-to-displacement characteristic when the slot walls are spaced from one another and will have another force-to- displacement characteristic when the slot walls contact one another. The compound spring further comprises a third force-to-displacement characteristic when the first and second ends are flexed relative to one another in a common plain.
