INSTRUMENTATION PACKAGE AND INTEGRATED RADIATION DETECTOR

A nuclear detector package includes a substantially cylindrical crystal element (52) ; a photomultiplier tube (54) arranged coaxially with the crystal element (52); an optical coupler (58) sandwiched between one end of the crystal element (52) and an adjacent end of the photomultiplier tube (54); the crystal element (52), optical coupler (58) and photomultiplier tube (54) hermetically sealed within a cylindrical shield (56); and a flexible support sleeve (120) extending exteriorly along the crystal element (52) and the photomultiplier tube (54) and radially inside the cylindrical shield (56). Also, an instrumentation package in broad terms includes at least one substantially cylindrical instrumentation component: a substantially cylindrical shield surrounding the instrumentation component, the shield having a diameter less than a standard predetermined diameter, and a sizing sleeve around the shield, thereby increasing the diameter of the standard predetermined diameter.
