The present invention relates to a device and method for applying an independent compression mode to encode each data block configuring an image frame in an encoder equipped in an image processing device. To this end, the method of the present invention comprises the following steps: encoding one or more data blocks based on each of a plurality of specified compression modes; reconfiguring the data blocks corresponding to each of the compression modes based on at least a part of each of the compression modes; determining the difference between data corresponding to each of the compression modes by using the data blocks, and the data blocks which reconfigure the data blocks; and selecting at least one compression mode from the compression modes based on at least a part of the difference between the data.
