In particular, the invention features methods for enhancing sensitivity of a tumor to cancer therapy by treating the tumor with an inorganic selenium-containing (iSe) compound and with a cancer therapy, particularly a cancer therapy that also affects the cellular redox status of a tumor cell (e.g., radiation). |

1. A method of treating prostate cancer in a subject, the method comprising:
administering to a subject having prostate cancer a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of an inorganic selenium-containing compound (iSe compound) in an amount effective to alter a reduction-oxidation state of a prostate cancer cell toward oxidation, wherein the administering of the iSe compound is oral; and administering radiotherapy to the subject within 6 hours after administering the iSe compound; wherein administering the iSe compound and radiotherapy provides for a synergistic effect in treating the prostate cancer in the subject. |
