摘要 According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate including a pixel electrode having a cross shape and surrounded by a first gate line, a second gate line, a first source line and a second source line, the pixel electrode including a main pixel electrode which extends in a first direction and a sub-pixel electrode extending in a second direction, a second substrate including a common electrode, the common electrode including main common electrodes which extend in the first direction and are located, respectively, above the first gate line and above the second gate line, and a liquid crystal layer held between the first substrate and the second substrate.

A liquid crystal display device comprising: a first substrate including a first gate line and a second gate line which extend in a first direction and are disposed with a first pitch along a second direction crossing the first direction, a storage capacitance line extending in the first direction between the first gate line and the second gate line, a first source line and a second source line which extend in the second direction and are disposed with a second pitch, which is greater than the first pitch, along the first direction, a switching element electrically connected to the second gate line and the first source line, and a pixel electrode having a cross shape and surrounded by the first gate line, the second gate line, the first source line and the second source line, the pixel electrode including a main pixel electrode which extends in the first direction and is located above the storage capacitance line, and a sub-pixel electrode extending in the second direction; a second substrate including a common electrode, the common electrode including main common electrodes which extend in the first direction and are located, respectively, above the first gate line and above the second gate line, and sub-common electrodes which extend in the second direction and are located, respectively, above the first source line and above the second source line; and a liquid crystal layer including liquid crystal molecules held between the first substrate and the second substrate, wherein a length of the main pixel electrode in the first direction is greater than a length of the sub-pixel electrode in the second direction, the switching element includes a drain electrode extending in the second direction immediately below the sub-pixel electrode, and an intersection between the main pixel electrode and the sub-pixel electrode of the pixel electrode is in contact with the switching element.
