PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can reduce the number of times to execute canceling of a pressure on a fixing unit.SOLUTION: A control unit 200 controls whether to cause a pressure canceling mechanism to cancel a pressure applied to a fixing nip depending on the length of a portion of a sheet P held by the fixing nip of a fixing unit 130.
