866,405. Retreading tyres. SUPER MOLD CORPORATION OF CALIFORNIA. Feb. 12, 1960 [Feb. 24, 1959], No. 5085/60. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXXIV] To enable a tyre to be placed in a re-treading mould, its outside diameter is reduced by mounting it on a rim 1, having stiff and soft rubber laminations 2, 3, respectively, and applying suction to the tyre through a stem 5, whilst preventing inward collapse of the sidewalls by the rigid curing rim 21. Further reduction in diameter may be obtained by a power operated bumping head 35, Fig. 4. A valve 16 allows the suction device to be removed whilst the tyre is placed in the mould. The stem 23 of the curing bag 20 protrudes into the stem 5. A rib 4 on the rim 1 acts as a stop to the tyre beads. |
