PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colony detection system or the like capable of accurately detecting a colony even in the case where a specimen contains residue or dirt.SOLUTION: A hygiene control system S of the embodiment has a constitution whereby it extracts color feature quantity regarding the color of pixels which constitute an imaged culture medium image, searches in a database 400 of previously recording model data of non-colony pixels therein based on the color feature quantity of each of the extracted pixels, determines pixels having color feature quantity which matches the recorded model data as non-colony pixels, removes the pixels determined as non-colony pixels from the culture medium image, detects colony pixels constituting a colony having a predetermined condition out of each pixel of the culture medium image from which the pixels were removed, and detects a colony based on the detected colony pixels.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
