An electric lamp having an Edison screw cap, comprises a threaded glass neck portion 2, a central contact 8 connected to a first lead wire 7 and a second lead wire 9, electrically connected to a side contact comprising a thin layer of foil 14, conductive on at least one side and deformed about the neck portion to assume the threaded profile of the neck portion. The foil may be aluminium having a maximum thickness of 50 or 100 microns and may have its ends 15, 16 (Fig. 4) wrapped round the bent down end 17 of the second lead wire 9 and pushed into a groove 8 in the lamp neck, running parallel to the neck axis.
