PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a series multiple matrix converter, power generation system, and power factor control method capable of appropriately controlling a power factor on the utility grid side.SOLUTION: A series multiple matrix converter according to an embodiment comprises a power conversion unit and a control unit. The power conversion unit is provided between a utility grid and a rotary electric machine and includes a plurality of power conversion cells connected in series. The control unit controls some power conversion cells of the plurality of power conversion cells so that current flows from the controlled power conversion cells to the rotary electric machine side; and controls the remaining power conversion cells so that the current flowing to the rotary electric machine side flows, as reactive current, from the remaining power conversion cells to the utility grid side.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
