Disclosed is a method for direct current (DC) breaking a permanent magnet synchronous motor having a pulse width modulation (PWM) inverter idled therein. The PWM inverter performs a DC current control when a voltage of a condenser for smoothing is between preset reference values, and halts the DC current control until the voltage of a condenser for smoothing reaches a lower terminal reference value when the voltage of a condenser for smoothing has an upper terminal reference value or greater. When an output current maintains the same status like a DC reference current during a constant time while this process is repeated, a DC breaking process is ended by determining the motor to be stopped. The motor can be normally stopped while avoiding overvoltage occurring in the condenser for smoothing. |
