PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module having thin thickness capable of easily adjusting an optical axis and a method for manufacturing the optical module.SOLUTION: An optical module 10 includes: a planar optical waveguide circuit 22 arranged on a substrate 21; a groove 107 arranged on the surface being opposite side from the surface on which the planar optical waveguide circuit 22 of the substrate 21 is arranged; and an optical device 105 arranged in the grieve 107 for making light incident to the planar optical waveguide circuit 22, and for receiving light outgoing from the planar optical waveguide circuit 22.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
