PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing lactic acid from glycerin without using an expensive solid catalyst and, moreover, under a milder condition and in a higher yield than a conventional method.SOLUTION: The method for producing lactic acid of the present invention comprises steps of: preparing a reaction solution with an amphoteric element dissolved by mixing and stirring glycerin, a hydroxide of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, water, and an amphoteric element; and a step of subjecting glycerin in the reaction solution, which is under an alkaline condition with the amphoteric element dissolved, to a hydrothermal reaction.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
