PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that can prevent unnecessary reduction of the life of an image carrier, and efficiently suppress cleaning failure to toner images for detection formed on the image carrier.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus makes variable, on the basis of the cumulative number of fed sheets in which recording media are fed in the image forming apparatus, the number of times of passing in which after patch patterns B (toner images for detection) are detected by a photosensor 41 (detection means) and the patch patterns B reach the position of an intermediate transfer cleaning device (cleaning blade 10a), an intermediate transfer belt 8 (image carrier) is further moved to cause parts B' having patch patterns B formed thereon to pass through the position of the intermediate transfer cleaning device.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
