A method for producing an inoculated compost substrate includes the step of inoculation of a pure culture of a microorganism into a compost substrate. The inoculation takes place when the following conditions have been met in the compost substrate: the compost substrate temperature exceeds 40 Degrees Celsius for a period of not shorter than ten days, the composite substrate temperature towards the conclusion of a Thermophilic Stage of composting has dropped below 35 Degrees Celsius, compost Substrate internal Carbon Dioxide atmosphere has a Carbon Dioxide level of less than 15%; the compost substrate has a pH in the range of 4.5 to 8.0; the compost substrate moisture content is within the range of 30-55%; compost substrate ammonium content is no higher than 15mg/litre; and the compost substrate aerated with no significant or measurable accumulation of Hydrogen Sulphide.
