Foods and feeds having a stable Vitamin A ingredient are made by adding to the food or feed a substituted-benzoic acid ester of Vitamin A in which the substitution is one or more nitro, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, amino, alkylated amino or acylated amino groups or halogen atoms, e.g. Vitamin A o-, m- or p-nitro-, 3,5-dinitro-, p-chloro-, p-methoxy-, 3,4,5-tri-meth-oxy-, o-, m- or p-amino- or 3,5-diamino-benzoate. The ester may be added as particles obtained by comminution of a congealed mixture of the ester and a colloid preparation such as aqueous gelatine or gum arabic. The examples are of incorporating the esters and gelatine and sugar, gelatine and wheat starch preparations of the esters into oatmeal, crushed maize and crushed soya beans and into poultry feeds and animal feeds directly. |
