In a circuit for comparing two binary numbers registered in registers 22, 23, the digits of the second number are inverted at 24, and the inverted digits applied, together with the true digits of the first number, to majority gate circuits 19, 20, 21 &c., the circuit 19 being for the least significant digits. The gate circuits 19, 20, 21 &c., each have three inputs and one output, the output of each being connected as one of the inputs to the next gate circuit, and are such that each produces an output only when signals are applied to at least two of its inputs. If there is an output from the final gate of the series then the number in the register 22 is greater than that in the register 23. If there is no such output the converse inequality holds, or else the numbers are equal. The application of a signal to the third input 25 of the first gate circuit 19 will distinguish these two cases by producing an output from the final gate only in the case of equality. The gate circuits 19, 20 &c. comprise transistors (Fig. 1, not shown).</p> |
