Provided is an external additive for a toner, which is suitable for producing a toner having excellent storage stability and chargeability. Silica fine powder suitable for being added to the external additive for a toner is also provided. The silica fine power has a specific surface area of 15-90 m2/g inclusive, a loose bulk density of 0.09-0.18 g/cm3 inclusive, a carbon content of 0.25-0.90 wt% inclusive, and a hydrophobicity of 60-75% inclusive. It is preferable that the ratio of the loose bulk density (A) of the silica fine powder after surface treatment to the loose bulk density (B) of the silica fine powder before the surface treatment, i.e., (A)/(B), be 1.05-1.60 inclusive. |
