<p>The invention comprises dyestuffs of formula <FORM:1064168/C4-C5/1> wherein of X1 and X2, one X is hydrogen or a hydroxyl group, the other X is hydrogen, a hydroxyl group or, if the first X is a hydroxyl group, a nitro group, or an amino group which is unsubstituted or one which is substituted by an alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or hydroxyalkyl group containing up to 5 carbon atoms, Y1 and Y2 are hydrogen or, if each of X1 and X2 is hydrogen, each or one may be halogen, R represents an aliphatic radical having at least 4 carbon atoms, an araliphatic, a cycloaliphatic or a carbocyclicaromatic radical, and n is 1 or 2, and the benzene ring A is unsubstituted or is further substituted by halogen, alkyl or alkoxy groups containing not more than 5 carbon atoms. The novel dyestuffs may be made by reacting <FORM:1064168/C4-C5/2> with <FORM:1064168/C4-C5/3> where X3 is a hydroxyl group if X1 and X2 independently of each other are hydrogen or a hydroxyl group, and a nitro group if one of X1 and X2 is a nitro group or a substituted or unsubstituted amino group, and optionally reducing a nitro group symbolized by X1 or X2 to an amino group and, if desired, converting said amino group into an alkylamino, alkoxyalkylamino or hydroxyalkylamino group with an alkylating agent. Alternatively the dyestuffs not containing a nitro group in the a -position may be made by reacting a sulphonyl chloride or bromide corresponding to the desired compound with ROH or an alkali metal salt thereof and optionally alkylating any amino group.</p> |
