PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound for a phosphorescence host, in which a band gap is enlarged by adopting a donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) structure.SOLUTION: A compound for a phosphorescence host comprises: a thioxanthene structure as a mother nucleus in a center portion serving as an acceptor; and a carbazole or a carboline compound serving as a donor and bonded around a center atom corresponding to a solfon structure of the mother nucleus. The compound is high in its triplet energy(ET) and glass transition temperature (Tg). So, the compound is allowed to have a long life, a high electrical mobility, and a thermal stability.
