PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and system for interworking between a cellular network (110) and wireless local area networks (WLANs; 130a, 130b).SOLUTION: At least one cellular network (110), at least one WLAN (130a, 130b) and an IP network (140) are deployed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU; 102) first establishes a connection to the WLAN (130a) and a tunnel between an access point (AP; 132a) and a packet data gateway (PDG; 129) is established. The PDG (129) further establishes a tunnel to the IP network (140). The WTRU (102) then invokes a service which is delivered through the WLAN (130a). As the quality of a signal from the AP (132a) degrades below a predetermined threshold, a handover from the WLAN (130a) to the cellular network (110) is performed. |
