A method for the separating electrically-charged particles moving along a path (2) as a function of the kinetic energy thereof is described and disclosed. The problem addressed by the invention is to propose a method for energy separation which has improved features over the prior art. The problem is solved by a method which is characterized in particular by the fact that an energy threshold (3) is generated along the path (2) and in that an electric field is generated running parallel to the path (2) by an electric potential difference.
